HOW CHIROPRACTIC CARE CAN KEEP YOU SURFING TILL AGE 100

There has been some talk on the forum recently about how chiropractic care may fit into your life, and the differences between chiropractic, and massage or acupuncture. I’ve been surfing almost 30 yrs and plan on surfing till I’m in the ground. One of my patients asked me recently, “Doc, when are you going to stop surfing?” It took me about 2 seconds to come up with the answer; NEVER!! Chiropractic care is based on laws of physics (which I will cover shortly), and the amazing principle that “THE POWER that made the body can heal your body” if it is free of interference. Chiropractic deals with nerve interference, called subluxations. Subluxation actually means a state of less light in your body. Chiropractic is about your body performing at the most optimal level possible. That is why Tiger Woods has had regular chiropractic care his entire professional career, and has quite a few green jackets. Andy Roddick and Lance Armstrong are some of the other incredibly accomplished athletes that have used chiropractic care as a key ingredient to their success. The fact is that more professional athletes use chiropractic than ever before. Even more revealing, is the increased use of regular chiropractic care for entire professional teams. In fact, Chiropractic Economics reported that over 95% of teams in the NFL use chiropractors as a regular part of player care. I was recently named a Doctor to the Wellness Advisory Council (WAC) for Team USA Wrestling, Judo, and Weightlifting. I will be traveling with Team USA Wrestling later this year to Russia for the World Championships. Team USA is committed to bringing home the Gold. Harvard University recently came out with a publication that said our brains and bodies are capable to living to age 120. We basically screw it up by messing up one or more of the basic essentials we need to make it to 120. Essential 1: Maximized Nerve Supply Essential 2: Maximized Quality Nutrition Essential 3: Maximized Oxygen and Lean Muscle Essential 4: Maximized Mind (learning how to attain peace) Essential 5: Minimize amount of toxins you put in your body Over the next 4-6 weeks I will go over each essential. If you want to participate, I will guarantee that your health status and the health of your family will change. ESSENTIAL # 1-MAXIMIZED NERVE SUPPLY Our health depends most on the stability and performance of our central nervous system. Thinking of this significant and intricate system intertwined within our body as a power supply of life, we are able to visibly see the significance of keeping our spinal cord and nerves in optimal shape. The brain is effectively the first organ to develop while in the mother’s womb. Our brain is the main command center for the rest of our body, and uses our spinal cord and nerves from the beginning to create every cell and organ. From development onto death, this command center is in charge of the flow of "power" along the spine and through the nervous system, controlling all function and healing within the body. Therefore, attaining overall health and wellness is directly associated to maximizing your nerve supply. The intricacy of the nervous system is so powerful and subtle that it is able to control millions of cells inside dozens of operating systems all at once. Right now you are currently breathing, your heart is beating and your eyes are blinking, all while sustaining feeling, and keeping pace within your limbs. All of these individual operations are done without effort and sometimes unknowingly due to your nervous systems ability to manage and regulate your body's function. While your body may be able to go days without water, weeks without food, and even minutes without oxygen, it cannot keep going one second without the power created by your nervous system! The nervous system is so essential to your body that it is covered within a well-built, bony structure to keep damaging elements away from the sensitive nerves. This bony structure consists of the skull, which guards the upper brain, and the spinal column, which shelters the spinal cord and nerve roots. When this column is not well taken care of, it may shift or rotate out of place, interfering with your body's ability to create maximum nerve supply. The condition of your spine then influences both your physical and mental health--making it essential to optimal performance. What I do is so simple. If your structure is not ideal to deal with the effects of gravity, surfing, technological stress, and trauma; your nervous system can’t possibly be working at 100%. At my office, we focus on correction. We do the best job possible of putting curves in where they are supposed to be, and removing curves that are not supposed to be there. This is done with a combination of specific chiropractic adjustments, spinal exercises, and you figuring out what you have, or have not been doing correctly with your lifestyle. We are a corrective chiropractic office that will take follow-up x-rays and show you measurable change. We do not use EMS muscle stimulation or hot packs in our office because I feel they have no corrective value. I would rather focus on the problem and not the effect. You are supposed to have a curve in your neck called a lordosis. It is essentially a backwards C. Your ear from the side should line up with you’re A/C joint (front of your shoulder) the only way to know if you have a curve is an x-ray. If you don’t have a curve in your neck this is what can happen; “For every inch of forward head posture, it can increase the weight of the head on the spine by an additional 10 pounds.” – Kapandji, Physiology of Joints, Vol 3. Forward head posture (FHP) can add up to thirty (30) pounds of abnormal leverage on the cervical spine. This can pull the entire spine out of alignment. –Rene Cailliet, M.D., Director of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Southern California FHP has been shown to flatten the normal neck curve, resulting in disc compression, damage, and early arthritis. – Gore DR, Sepic SB, Gardner GM. Roentgenographic findings of the cervical spine in asymptomatic people. Spine 1986; 6:591-694 FHP results in loss of vital capacity of the lungs by as much as 30%. This shortness of breath can lead to heart and blood vascular disease. –Rene Cailliet, M.D., Director of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Southern California The entire gastrointestinal system is affected; particularly the large intestine. Loss of good bowel peristaltic function and evacuation is a common effect of FHP. –Rene Cailliet, M.D, Director of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Southern California PLEASE TAKE THIS VALUABLE INFORMATION AND USE IT.
